In 1977, Diana Spencer returned to live at Park House. There she focused on what she wanted to do the most, marry the future King of England, Prince Charles. Unlike most girls who just dreamed about becoming a princess, she knew her dream could come true because her family came from a royal background. She would make the perfect match for the Prince. There was only one problem with her dream, her older sister was dating him. Diana was very jealous of her sister because she knew the Sarah really didn't love Charles. Sarah did an interview with the press during her relationship with Charles, and she stated that she really didn't love him and she had never planned on marrying him. Prince Charles did not like hearing this from the press and he ended the relationship very quickly.
In the late 1980's, Prince Charles and Diana officially met. They began dating each other. Prince Charles had been pressured by his family to find a wife because he was getting older, and they thought Diana was the perfect girl for him to marry. On February 24, 1981, they announced their engagement.
Their wedding was held at London's St. Paul Cathedral on July 29, 1981. Diana arrived in a glass carriage. She was accompanied by her father. People lined the streets for up to two miles just to see Diana. At the wedding ceremony there were 2,500 guests in attendance. 750 million viewers around the world watched the wedding on television.

After the wedding, they lived at the Kensington Palace in London, and Highgrove House in Gloucesteshire. Within three years of their marriage, Diana had two children. William Arthur Philip Louis was born on June 21, 1982. Henry Charles Albert David was born on September 15, 1984. They were second and third in line to the throne after their father.

Her children were the light of her life. She always said Prince William would take his position much earlier than people thought. Diana's main goal in raising her children was to keep them as normal as possible. She wanted them to see how common people lived. She took both her children with her to many of her charities because she wanted them to experience the pain of the real world and show them how most of the people in the real world lived. Henry and William were the most important things in Diana's life. After having her second son, the pressures of being the Princess of Wales started to take its toll on Diana. Life as a princess was much harder than what she expected. |
