The early Indians in missouri were the asages, sacs,foxes,otos,iowas,missouians,delawares,shawnees ans kansas. The name for an indian tribe,today there are no organized tribes left in missouri. The most important and bloodest BATTLE fought in missouri was the battle of wilsons creek near Springfield Mo. In 1820 the missouri compromise was passed whereby missouri was to be admittedas a slave state. The nations leader duringthe last year of the war was lamar born Harry s. truman, he was the first missourian to become president of the united states. Missourians later served in the korean and vietnam wars and dr. Thomas A. Dooley and general Maxwell D. Taylor emerged as noted figures. Missourihas moved torward the 21st century with modernized technology, nuclear energy, transportation, education; progress in the civil rights, and women's rights. During World war one missouri provided 140,257 soldiers, one thrid being volunteers during world war 2 missouri contributed a total of over 450000 men and wemon to the various armed forces.
