Styles of Rock Music

Its hard to classify much of the music today because their is so many differnt kinds of it. Rock began about 50 years ago dating back to the ages of Elvis who started a new era of "up beat" music. Todays rock has lots of different categories. Here are most of them,

PUNK ROCK

Punk rock has been tearing up the music scene now for about 10 or 20 years, the style has progressed into music with fast rythms, simple guitar riffs, and often times comical lyrics of hatred for someone else or past times of bad luck. The band of punks sometimes doesnt even have to know how to play their instruments very well, most of the time they just play to the audience to win them over with their personalities. Some of the most popular punk bands today are Blink 182, Goldfinger, Green Day, and my personal favorite, Good Charlotte.

ALTERNATIVE

Alternative rock is basically another name for rock that cant really be classified but is still well liked by its fans. It is the latest difference from other styles of rock but is growing rapidly throught MTV and radio stations throught the U.S., The style some say are more of a depressing rock. Popular alternative bands today are Staind and Linkin Park.

PROGRESSIVE

Progressive rock music combines and transends the various music genrŽs to a greater extent than possibly any other type of music. Not so popular around today's youth, many of middle age people have found progressive rock the greatest of all with bands like Pink Floyd, Yes, Mettalica, and Deep Purple.

MELLOW ROCK

Mellow rock has been becoming more and more popular amongst a variety of all ages combinding hard rock with soft easy-beat rythms and lyrics to capture the attention of people. A lot of bands have gone from a hard style of rock and moved their way down to mellow. Mellow rock bands a few a the moment but many are comming up in the world all the time. Popular artists of Mellow rock include Third Day, Goo Goo Dolls, and Linkin Park has often times been recognised as more of a mellow rock band.
