Tornado alley is what weather forcaster call the most active places for tornados to occur, central and north central regions, but most forecasters call Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas tornado alley. The most active period is from March to July.

Scientist use the word cyclone to refer to all spiral shaped windstorms that circulate in a counter clockwise. The term cyclone comes from a greek word for circle. On rare occasion the winds whirl in the direction of opposite of that of a cyclone. The United States has the highest incidence of tornados in the world.
