Statue of Zeus

Of the Seven Ancient Wonders of the World the Statue of Zeus is the most impressive. This wonderful image was made of gold and pink tinted ivory, which reached the height of 58 feet. The left hand held a sceptor, and in the right hand was a small figure that represented victory. The throne was built or sculpted with gold and precious stone.
The 5th century B.C. was when the statue was executed by the sculptor Pidias, no one has ever been able to surpass his artistry. It was worshiped by many ancient Greeks who travled from far places to see the great work of art. It was destroyed in later centuries by Christian invaders. They fiercely opposed the Pagan Gods. Descriptions from classical writings and representation on ancient coins is the only way that, today, we know that the Statue of Zeus really exsisted and how great it really was.
