Hanging Gardens of Babylon

On the east bank of the Euphrates river, about 50 Km south of Baghdad, Iraq, is where the Hanging Gardens of Babylon lied. They were built in 600 B.C. by the Babylonian King Nebuchaclnezzar. Legends say that these gardens, which became one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, were planned by the king to please his wife, which came from the hilly country, and was homesick on the plains of Babylon. The gardens, contain many kinds of fruits, flowers, waterfalls, gardens hanging from the palace terraces, and exotic animals. The terraces were 75 to 100 feet high. Various buildings and galaries could also be found in the gardens. The Hanging Gardens have vanished and they are known today only by descriptions left behind by ancient writers.
