Pyramids of Egypt

"Time mocks all, but the pyramids mock time."

Several thousand years ago the pyramids of Egypt were built as royal tombs, and today monumental images of a once great civilization. Stone or mud blocks is what each pyramid is made of, the base being square or polygonal, and the sides sloping upward to a point at an angle of about 50 degrees. The burried King is found deep down in the base of each pyramid in a the hollow chamber, with his wealth and often members of his entourage.

The three Pyramids at Giza are the greatest of all pyramids, Cheops is the most famous pyramid of the three. The structure covers 13 acres and weighs about 6,000,000 tons. It was originally 482 feet high and 768 feet wide at the base. It took 20 years for men to build this pyramid. Each stone block, weighing tons, was cut from solid rock with private tools.
