German Tanks

Produced from April 1942, it sported a conrveted 3" anti-air gun, and a coax 37mm for dealing with lighter armor. Also with 4" of armor, and weighing in at a good 57 tonnes, the tank could travel at 22mph and would have been able to deal with about anything it met (Short of the late-war German Tiger IIs and variants).

However, it was decided that resources for both manufacture and shipping would be better spent on medium tanks, so they took another long look at the vehicle.... They deemed the internal layout unsatisfactory, the turret too small for further development, the 3" gun as obsolescent, at least for a heavy, and the drive train was unreliable for prolonged use.

Of the 5000 vehicles planned, the 40 built were exentsively used for trials, results being used in the design of the M26 Pershing. This vehicle is to be found in the Aberdeen Proving Grounds.

This ISU-152 was captured in Portinhoikka 25th June, 1944. It was then fixed up and redone and used at the end of the war. One of them was lost after three days.It survived the battles and its main gun was removed and it was used as a towing vehicle after the war until 1964. Its gun was reinstalled when the tank was added to the Parola museum inventory.
