Rules for Slowpitch Softball
- Rules for the pitcher: The pitcher must be at the mound. The pitch is required to have an arc of six to twelve feet.
Anything below six or above twelve is considered an illegal pitch. When that happens the pitch is automatically called a
ball. The batter can swing at the pitch. The pitching distance is fifty feet.
- Rules for the batter and baserunners: The strike zone depends on where the ball lands after the pitch is thrown. If it
arrives at the back of the plate and crosses between the batter's shoulders and knees, then the pitch would be a strike. Anything
out of that area would be a ball. The batter also gets three strikes and four balls, as in regulation baseball and fastpitch softball.
The batting and baserunning is very important in slowpitch softball. There is no stealing and no lead offs. The offense is very dependent
upon the batter. The bases are sixty-five feet apart. If a batter is hit with a pitch, they may not take their base.
- Rules for the field: There are ten players on the field at one time. There is one additional outfielder. The rules are the same
as baseball and fastpitch softball. The only thing different is that they do not have to worry about stealing and lead offs or bunting.
Three outs are required before the fielders can go in and bat.
