James Naismith was born in 1861, in Ramsey Township, near Almonte, Ontario Canada, He attended the McGill University, in
Montreal Quebec, Canada. After serving as the Athletic Director there, He moved to YMCA Training Center in Springfield Massachusetts.
Dr. James Naismith invented basketball in 1891. He invented it as a sport to be played indoors during winter months,
when weather would not let athletes go outside. Naismith received his education in Canada. He used his education to teach,
develop the sport, and direct Physical Education Programs for the YMCA and the University of Kansas.
