The first type of skateboards were scooters they date back to the early 1900s it had roller skates attached to a two by four.
The scooters had handles for control over the decades kids change the look of scooters. They took off the crate and started riding a two by four with steel wheels.
In the 1950's the trucks were made better (the device that holds the wheels) and kids started to move more easily.
Towards the late 1950's, surfing became increasingly popular and people began to tie surfing together with cruising on a board. By 1959, the first Roller Derby Skateboard was for sale.
Clay wheels entered the picture and sidewalk surfing began to take root.
