AMC

American Motors was formed in 1954, and ended in the merger of AMC and Chrysler in 1987. AMC was the last independent American car company. AMC had a very rocky start but got better as the years went by. The 60's and early 70's for AMC was the best years ever for the company.

In the 60's their only good known car was the Rambler and it was a good one that would explains why it took "Motor trend car of the year"twice in a row. In the early 70's they started making cars that had performance and racing qualities. These cars were AMX, Javelin, and S/C Rambler.

In the 70's they enjoyed another good decade. They added the Gremlin and Pacer to there lineup in this decade. Soon after though they had to give in because they couldn't keep up with foreign company and the double whammy.
